My mosaic work is in the style of "pique assiette".Pique assiette is a style of mosaic art that incorporates pieces of broken ceramics, plates, dishes, cups, tiles, glass, shells, and other found objects into a design. The term "pique assiette" originates with the activities of Raymond Isidore from Chartres in northern France. In French, "pique assiette" is defined as a scrounger, or someone whose interest is stealing a plate with food on it. During the 1930s Raymond Isidore became obsessed with decorating his entire property, both inside and out with broken ceramic pieces, tiles, and glass and became known by the name "Picassiette". His home came to be called La Maison Picassiette. I took my first class creating mosaic art in 2002, and since then I have been working with ceramic pieces and glass. Combining ceramics, tiles, glass, and other objects becomes a wonderful palette of materials to work with. Creating a piece of mosaic art is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, fitting together many small objects into a beautiful art piece. My collection of mosaic art is a reflection of the colors, textures, and patterns that have inspired me. Each mosaic piece is an unique and original piece of art.
